Selective talent network and AI data services ยท Features guide

Toptal Features

Toptal's worth-it features are the trial and replacement for clients and the matching setting for talent. TopAccess costs twelve monthly payments with no acceptance guarantee, and ExpertCrowd is a sales-led AI data product with no public price. [1] [3] [4]

The client trial is the feature that protects you

Each engagement opens with a trial of up to two weeks, and you can trial up to three candidates per position. If a trial fails, Toptal provides another expert for a second trial. For a client who needs a senior hire but cannot judge the candidate alone, that is the feature the subscription pays for. [1]

Worth using, but ask one question in writing first: whether hours already worked are refunded if you end a trial early. The FAQ does not answer it, and the guides disagree on whether a trial converts to a billed engagement. [1] [8]

Matching depends on being 'available', and no timeline is given

Once accepted, Toptal's matching team places talent on jobs, and members can browse and apply to eligible roles. Setting your profile to 'currently available' lets matchers contact you. That setting is the one lever the FAQ names for getting matched. [2]

Two 2026 talent reviews say the app and internal platform are easy to use, and that job posts state the stack, hours and time-zone overlap. Turn availability on when you can take work, because the FAQ gives no timeline for matches. [6] [2]

TopAccess is a twelve-payment commitment with no guarantee of acceptance

TopAccess is an annual subscription paid in 12 monthly installments. It renews each year unless you cancel by 11:59 pm Eastern on the day before renewal. Cancelling early does not stop the remaining payments, and access ends when the term does. A late payment fee of up to $30 applies. [3]

It does not guarantee acceptance to Toptal's Marketplace. Toptal can reject any request without giving a reason, and it refunds rejected requests. The terms do not state the price, so get it in writing before you sign. [3]

The bundled job boards are worth it only if you would pay for them anyway

RemoteOK's help page values the boards bundled with TopAccess at $94.75 a month in total: Toptal Marketplace at $14.95, Arc at $14.95, PeoplePerHour at $39.95, NoDesk at $9.95 and We Work Remotely at $14.95. It also lists a one-time reward of up to $500 for a revenue milestone, subject to eligibility. [7]

That total is only real if you use every board. RemoteOK's page is a third-party help page, not a Toptal price list, so treat the $94.75 as RemoteOK's valuation. [7]

ExpertCrowd is for companies building AI, and its figures are Toptal's own

ExpertCrowd is Toptal's AI training-data product. It offers RLHF, reinforcement-learning data generation, labelling and model evaluation, staffed from Toptal's expert network. It was announced on 13 October 2026. It is a product for companies, not a way to hire a developer. [4] [5]

The page shows no price and gives a 15-minute demo as the only call to action. Toptal says ExpertCrowd draws on 30,000 experts in 140 countries and has produced over $5 million in recurring revenue. Those are company claims with no stated method and no independent confirmation, so ask for the figures in a demo before you buy. [4] [5]

What to use now, and what to wait on

Use now: the client trial, if you are hiring for a role you cannot assess yourself. Use if you already need it: the talent matching setting, which costs nothing to turn on. Use with care: TopAccess, which is a fixed twelve-payment commitment with no acceptance guarantee. Wait: ExpertCrowd, until the company's figures are checked, unless you are building AI models.
