Selective talent network and AI data services ยท Businesses guide
A company hiring through Toptal pays a $79 monthly subscription, which the FAQ lists without a currency, plus hourly rates that Toptal does not publish. The trial and replacement are the protection; the terms say Toptal makes no warranty as to results. [1] [4] [9]

Toptal gives a company access to a screened pool of senior specialists, a trial of up to two weeks, and a second expert if the first trial fails. Toptal says it matches clients in about 48 hours, and that its average time to match is under 24 hours. Those are company claims with no dated sample, and its FAQ says candidates are introduced within 24 hours. [2] [1]
Toptal invoices clients twice a month, typically on Net 10 terms, with 'some flexibility' according to the FAQ. The hourly bill is the main cost, so your finance team needs the rate in writing before any trial starts. [1]
The subscription is $79 a month, and the FAQ prints no currency. Over a year that is $948 if it is in US dollars (our arithmetic). The hourly rates are the larger number. Third-party estimates put general roles at $60 to $150 an hour or more and specialists at $200 or more, so a full-time frontend developer at the estimate runs $2,400 to $6,000 a week. [1] [8] [9]
Two guides say clients must commit to at least 20 hours a week, without citing a source. Toptal's FAQ states no client minimum, so ask whether one applies before you budget a part-time hire. [11] [10] [1]
Cancellation needs three business days' notice before the next billing date. A refund applies only if Toptal cannot present any talent, and then up to one month's subscription fee. Four guides say a $500 refundable deposit is paid before matching, which Toptal's FAQ does not mention. Get the deposit answer in writing before your first budget meeting. [3] [1] [9] [10] [12]
The trial is the other money term. The FAQ says you are not billed if you are not completely satisfied. Cadence says trial hours convert to billable work unless you end the trial inside the window. Settle which reading applies in writing before the trial starts. [1] [12]
The terms name Toptal, LLC and its affiliates as the contracting party, apply New York law, and say Toptal makes no warranty as to the results. That means the trial, the replacement and the quality of the work are the protection you have, not a guarantee in the terms. [4]
Clients give Toptal names, job titles, payment and company details, and it may run a credit check before services begin. Payment data goes to service providers, including Stripe. Ask your legal team to read the data section before a company account is opened. [5]
Client reviews from September and October 2026 praise fast matching and a responsive account team. One one-star client review, labelled as company-invited, describes overbilling and an unfinished project over budget. Read the complaints page before you sign a scope. [7] [6]
Yes, for a senior specialist you cannot assess yourself, on a project that needs a trial. The subscription is small next to the rate, and the trial and replacement give you a way out of a bad fit. [1] [9]
Only with care for a long engagement on a fixed budget. The final rate is unknown until you hire, and third-party estimates of the margin range from 30 to 50 percent. Compare the rate with what you would pay for the same skill without a platform, before you commit. [10] [9]
