Start with the free tools that never submit a proposal: UpHunt for your profile, UpCat for drafts, and a filter or alert tool for new jobs. Skip any tool that runs on your Upwork login or scrapes search pages unless you have read Upwork's terms on automation and accept the risk to your account. [1] [2] [3]

UpHunt's free profile optimizer scores a public Upwork profile across six areas and suggests a new title and overview. It needs no sign-up and no payment details, and it is limited to 10 profiles an hour. It compares your text with the last 30 days of postings, so run it before your first bids. The site also promotes UpHunt's paid auto-apply and alerts, which this tool does not need. [1]
UpCat writes a cover letter for the job post you have open, and it sends alerts by category, skill and keyword. The vendor says it is always free, with no trial and no card. Its page states no cap on drafts or alerts, so the free limits are unknown until you sign up. It says it never submits a proposal and never asks for your Upwork password. Edit each draft before you send it, because the FAQ says you should. Its guides on Connects promote its own tools, so read them as sales copy. [2]
Upwork Job Tracker & Notifications watches Upwork search pages and sends browser alerts. You can filter by keyword, excluded words, job type, client quality, budget, proposal count and posting time, then save the filters as presets. Set a proposal-count ceiling so you see posts while they are still early. The developer says processing runs locally, with no account and no data sent to outside servers. Those are the developer's claims. The listing has two ratings, so test it for one week before you rely on it. [3]
The Telegram bot on GitHub sends new jobs from one or more Upwork RSS feeds to Telegram. RSS avoids scraping pages, and the bot is free, though its page names no licence. Set your filters in Upwork's advanced search before you copy the feed URL, because the feed keeps those filters. The author says it is not affiliated with Upwork. It has 38 stars and 11 forks on GitHub. [4]
oldravian's PHP script reads a saved-search RSS feed and emails you new postings. A cron job runs it on a schedule. It is free, but you need PHP, Composer and PHPMailer set up first. The feed setup steps appear only in an image in the README, and the project has six stars and no forks. Choose it over the Telegram bot only if you already run scheduled scripts and want email. [5]
Quicker UpWork Search, by rimutaka, is a Chrome and Firefox extension under the MIT licence. It dims job posts you have already seen as you scroll Find Work and search pages. It keeps the 1,000 most recent job IDs in local browser storage, and its README says it sends no data anywhere. It does not bid, alert or score anything, and with four stars it is a small project. Treat it as a marker, not a pipeline. [6]
Upwork Job Scorer & Spam Detector scores each post and flags suspected spam, to help you decide where to spend Connects. The score is the developer's own heuristic, not Upwork data, and the listing says it is not affiliated with Upwork. It was last updated in December 2023, has about 3,000 users and a 4.0 rating from 10 ratings. A tool that old may not match today's job posts, so judge each flag against your own reading of the post. [7]
The Upwork Toolkit on the Chrome store has about 10,000 users and a 4.1 rating from 502 ratings, and it was updated in June 2026. It sends job alerts, saves or generates cover letters, and pre-fills the proposal form. It can open the proposal page for new jobs, but its listing does not describe automatic submission. Its open-source code is GPL-3.0, with 204 stars and 78 commits. It runs on your Upwork session cookies and calls Upwork's GraphQL API directly, which is unofficial and can break when Upwork changes its API. The README does not mention Upwork's terms. Skip it if a suspended account would cost you more than faster alerts, since account suspensions are one of the main complaint categories. [8] [9]
jmdoan1's Python script watches saved search URLs and sends new postings to Telegram, with budget, client and skills. It is free under the MIT licence. It scrapes Upwork with Selenium and Chrome WebDriver rather than using RSS, so it is the riskiest tool here. The README tells users to follow Upwork's terms and to use the script for personal use only, and it warns that Upwork may rate-limit or detect it. Skip it if you need your Upwork access for daily work and cannot accept a block. [10]
