Is Indie Hackers Worth It?

The free Indie Hackers account is worth the time for most founders. IH+ at $198 a year makes sense only if you will use its case-study library, and one reviewer limits that to pre-revenue founders up to about $5K MRR. [1]

The short answer

The free account is worth your time for most founders who want revenue stories and feedback. IH+ is worth $198 a year only in a narrow case: a founder from pre-revenue to about $5K MRR who will use the case-study library. That verdict comes from one reviewer who did not subscribe and runs a paid founder group, which the review discloses. Test the free forum before you pay. [1]

Pre-revenue founders: pay only if you will read

Your test is how often you would open a case study. The annual charge works out to $16.50 a month ($198 ÷ 12). If you would read at least one case study a week, that is a fair price for the reading. If you would not, you are paying for a library you will not open. [1] [2]

At $10K MRR and above, use the free forum for peers

The reviewer says IH+ is not worth it for accountability or peers at $10K MRR and above. Use the free forum for peer conversation. If you want a paid peer group, judge it on its own price and admission rules. [1]

For customers, look elsewhere first

NoonLaunch says Indie Hackers is not a source of instant traffic, and winning paying customers usually takes months of active posting. One vendor database lists it as a channel for 4 of 68 bootstrapped apps, about 6%. The reviewer also says IH+ is not a launch or customer channel. [3] [4] [1]

When the answer changes

The answer changes in two places. If you want a paid group of peers, compare Bootstrapped Makers and MicroConf Connect on price and admission. If the job is finding one specific co-founder or investor, Omnitwine offers AI-assisted connections among eligible members. Its AI suggests members who fit what you need, both sides decide whether to connect, and it is free and takes no cut. It does not guarantee a reply. [6] [7]
