Indie Hackers for Indie Hackers

Solo builders get most from the free Indie Hackers forum: revenue stories, milestone posts and peers. IH+ at $198 a year suits founders from pre-revenue to about $5K MRR who will use the case studies. At $10K MRR and above, one reviewer says it is not worth it for peers or accountability. [1] [4]

The free forum gives you revenue stories and peers

A 2026 Product Hunt reviewer rates the community high in signal and low in noise, because founders post what worked and what failed. The revenue figures are self-reported, so treat each one as a single founder's account. A 2021 Hacker News commenter who came back says they are “generally enjoying it.” [4] [5]

Expect to scroll past promotion

A 2021 Hacker News thread said content had turned to product promotion, paid newsletters and “building in public” posts. A 2024 comment says the board has higher-quality talk than sites with stricter promotion rules. Expect both, and read for the replies. [5] [6]

What it really costs you

The free route costs time. The wait before your first post has no stated length, and results usually take months. IH+ is $198 a year, billed annually, so it is only worth paying for if you use it. [1] [2] [3]

IH+ is for solo builders who will read the case studies

IH+ suits a solo builder who is pre-revenue to about $5K MRR and wants the case-study library. One reviewer counts more than 600 case studies and says the database is the reason to subscribe. That reviewer runs a paid founder group and did not subscribe to IH+. Spread over 12 months, the annual charge is $16.50 a month ($198 ÷ 12). [1] [2]

At $10K MRR, peers and accountability are not the paid tier's job

The same reviewer says IH+ is not worth it for accountability or peers at $10K MRR and above. Use the free forum for peers. If you want a paid peer group, treat it as a separate purchase: MicroConf Connect costs $49 a month or $499 a year and charges only after acceptance. [1] [7] [2]

Protecting yourself

Get the IH+ refund terms in writing before you pay. One reviewer reports a 30-day, pro-rated window with no formula, and a June 2026 Trustpilot review describes a refund request that got no reply. Keep dated copies of every request. [1] [8]

Treat posts as public, and keep payment details out of the forum. Data can pass to a buyer in a business sale, according to a third-party reading of the policy, so read the privacy page before you post personal details. [9]

Your first three months

Sign up and wait out the posting period, reading the groups you will use. Post one milestone with a real number, and read the revenue posts in your category. Do not buy IH+ until the free forum has shown you that you would use the library. [1] [10]

Should you pay for it?

Should you use Indie Hackers as a solo builder? Yes, on the free route, for revenue stories and feedback. Should you pay $198 a year? Only if you are pre-revenue to about $5K MRR and will read the case studies at least once a week. [1]
