Lunchclub in one paragraph

Lunchclub appears to be retired. Its latest App Store release is dated 3 Mar 2022, and the status page lists the dated signals behind that verdict. The history below describes the company's past, and this page is kept for reference. [1] [5] [13]

Lunchclub began in 2019 as a service that emailed warm introductions for one-to-one lunches or coffees. By 2020 it was an app. You filled in a profile with your objectives, interests and a conversation starter, chose how many meetings you wanted each week, and the system booked calls with other members. Feedback after each meeting was said to shape future matches. [7] [8]

By 2024 the process had changed. A personal review from February 2024 describes one-hour calls scheduled after a profile was approved. The App Store still lists the app as free, and its last release, version 2.3.8, is dated 3 March 2022 and described only as bug fixes. [9] [1]

The good meetings were real, and the bad ones were no-shows

The good experience was a call with someone senior you would not otherwise have met. Nine of the 25 user reports cited here describe useful or enjoyable meetings, from 2020 to 2024 or as relative ages, including repeat contacts. A 2020 Blind reply said meetings lasted 30 to 45 minutes, with agendas built from profiles, and that the poster met senior people at large companies. These accounts are self-selected, so they show that good meetings happened, not how often. [2] [4] [11] [10] [9]

The bad experience was the no-show. Five of the 25 user reports describe a match who did not show up or cancelled late, all from 2020 to 2023. One 2023 App Store reviewer said many scheduled lunches were no-shows and support did not reply. Sign-in also failed for at least one member: a February 2023 reviewer was stuck at the login screen after repeated code requests. [2] [3] [12] [10]

What people liked, and what frustrated them

A Product Hunt reviewer, dated only as about four years ago, said they met many useful people and found the interface simple to use. [4]

The frustrations were about what happened after a bad match. Reviewers said support was slow or did not reply, and Product Hunt reviewers said you could not choose match partners by field or by person, and that the location filter had been removed. A July 2023 Trustpilot reviewer, the only one-star review on the profile, called customer service very bad. [4] [3]

It suited people outside large cities, and nobody who needs a reliable service

A February 2024 personal review recommended Lunchclub for people outside large cities who lacked an established network. That review carries a referral link the author received, so weigh its praise accordingly. [9]

Today it suits no one who needs a service they can count on. Fortune reported in November 2025 that the founders pivoted into Lighter, a perpetual futures exchange, and Lighter's site does not mention Lunchclub. Nothing cited shows the app working after February 2024. [5] [6] [1]
