MentorCruise Tips

Cancel before the trial ends if the first session misses your goal, because billing starts automatically. Keep dated records too, since a refund for a silent mentor needs two follow-ups and written proof. [2] [5]

Common mistakes and what to do instead

Assuming the first call is free

What to do instead
Read the checkout step before you accept a mentor
Why it matters
The homepage and the help article describe the first payment differently [1] [2]

Letting the trial run on

What to do instead
Cancel before the trial ends if the first session missed your goal
Why it matters
Billing starts automatically, and nothing is billed if you cancel first [2]

Chasing a silent mentor with no record

What to do instead
Keep dated follow-ups and written proof
Why it matters
The refund route needs two follow-ups, a week of silence and written proof [5]

Expecting a fast match

What to do instead
State your goal and background first, and try more than one mentor
Why it matters
Mentors decide on that, and matching can take time [8]

Forgetting the 20%

What to do instead
Budget the markup: a $100 rate is $120
Why it matters
MentorCruise keeps $20 of each $120 charge [6]

For mentees

Test fit before you pay. Choose a mentor who offers the 7-day trial, and cancel before it ends if the first session doesn't answer your question. Trial length can differ by mentor, so check the checkout screen. [2]

Ask whether the mentor wants more than your plan price. The company says a mentor may ask for a higher fee if the plan is judged insufficient. A 2022 reviewer says a locked monthly fee was raised, so agree the number in writing before you start. [8]

Keep dated records of every missed session and follow-up. The refund route, set out in MentorCruise's refund help article, needs two follow-ups, more than a week of silence and written proof the mentor agrees with. Without dated messages, you have nothing to show. [5]

Pause rather than end when you need a break. Pausing keeps your chat, while ending closes it and stops recurring payments. Pausing needs a resume day, and it can't be used twice in one billing cycle. [3] [4]

Give your goal and background in the first message. Mentors decide on that, and matching can take time. If the first mentor doesn't fit, try another rather than waiting it out. [8]

Ask about the mentor's experience in the first session. Quality varies, and two reviewers from 2022 and 2024 questioned expertise or vetting. Ask for a concrete example of the mentor's work in your field. [8]

For mentors

Complete every application field. One September 2026 applicant was rejected for leaving LinkedIn and Twitter fields blank, even after sending a CV. [8]

Keep written records of disputes. One mentor says their profile was hidden from search after they challenged invoices, with no reply. Written records are what you'd need whichever side is right. [8]

Plan around the card-fee range, and ask for the rest in writing. At the stated card rates, a $100 rate leaves $95.50 to $96.22. MentorCruise publishes no commission schedule, minimum payout or tax treatment, so ask support before you set a rate. [7]
