CoFoundersLab for Founders

For founders, CoFoundersLab's free directory is the part worth using first, and Premium's $29 a month is worth paying only if the free limits block you. Matching is a directory search, not a match, and the trial becomes a charge unless you cancel. Test the directory for a week before you enter a card. [1] [2] [6]

What CoFoundersLab gives you, and what it does not

It gives you a large directory of founders you can search without a card. It does not give you a match. The homepage promises a partner 'based on interests, skills and location', but the site names no criteria, and Recommended Candidates uses an algorithm it does not describe. [3] [1]

What it costs you

Premium costs $29 a month, which is $348 over 12 months at the monthly rate. The annual price is not on the official page, and two guides say $299, which would be $49 less. The bigger cost is the time you spend messaging people who do not reply, and the risk of a charge you cannot easily reverse. [1] [5]

Your first three months

Week one: test the free plan. Message five people you have picked, and note the day the limit appears. Replies are the only measure that matters. Reviewers from 2024 to 2026 describe requests that go unanswered, so a directory search alone is not a plan. [1] [10]

Week two: decide on Premium, and save the cancel control. If the free limit stopped you and people replied, start the trial. Find the cancel control inside your account, screenshot it, and set a reminder for day 25 of the 30-day trial. [2] [1]

Months two and three: judge by replies, not by profile count. If the directory has produced no real conversations after a month, stop the subscription and look elsewhere. [10]

Protecting yourself

Check every member yourself. The Terms ban impersonation and describe no verification, and reviewers report fake, bot or inactive profiles. Before you share anything sensitive, remember that Premium users' limited profile data can be exported unless they opt out. [2] [10] [4]

Finding a cofounder beyond CoFoundersLab

Local founder events are often free or low-cost, and Y Combinator's Co-Founder Matching is free with no equity, though it shows profiles only to approved members. [7] [8]

Should you join as a founder?

Yes, free, for a week of testing. Pay only if the free limit blocks people you need to reach, and only after you have found the cancel control. If you cannot get replies in a month, the directory is not the answer, and the subscription should end. [1] [2]
