Indie Hackers Reviews

Indie Hackers' public ratings are thin, and its best-known score is unreliable. Product Hunt shows 4.9 from 24 reviews, but eight of the 13 visible reviews promote crypto recovery services. Judge the site by the praise and complaints in each sample, not by the average. [2] [3]

The 4.9 average is mostly spam

Product Hunt's 4.9 average comes from 24 reviews. Eight of the 13 visible ones promote crypto or Bitcoin “recovery” services and include contact details. Four look genuine and one promotes another product. The average counts all of them, so it says little about the community. [2]

Product Hunt hides 11 of the 24 reviews and shows the rest only with relative dates such as “1mo ago” to “3yr ago”, so the 4.9 cannot be checked or dated. Read it as a launch-page number, not a measure of what members experience. [2]

Trustpilot's 2.6 rests on four people

Four reviews is too few to rate a site. The 2023 five-star review praises fast discovery of new products, maker content and “substantive discussion.” The newest review, from June 2026, is a refund complaint. [3]

What happy reviewers say

The praise is consistent, but each site holds only a few voices. A Product Hunt reviewer from about October 2026 says the “transparent revenue numbers” and “what worked / what failed” posts make the community high in signal and low in noise. Those revenue figures are the founders' own. [2]

Older reviews say much the same. An older Product Hunt reviewer says the site helps turn side projects into full-time businesses, and a 2021 Hacker News commenter who came back says they are “generally enjoying it.” Each one is a single person. [2] [6]

What unhappy reviewers say

Four problems come up, and only spam recurs across sources and years. [8]

Spam and promotionFounders and readers8 of 13 visible Product Hunt reviews (Nov 2026); 13 Hacker News comments matching “indie hackers” and “spam” (2017 to 2024, keyword search)The feed gets harder to read. One 2021 commenter said the site had turned into something else and left.

The other three each rest on one person. The full complaints page covers what to do about each. [2] [3] [7]

Don't take the stars at face value

Each score measures something different. Product Hunt measures launch-day enthusiasm, Trustpilot's 2.6 comes from four people, and NoonLaunch's 9.1 is its author's own mark from a publisher that sells launch listings. Read what reviewers wrote, not the number. [1] [3] [4]

Look for a paying member's report before you pay

Only one review on these sites comes from a paying member, and it is the refund complaint. The detailed verdict on IH+ comes from a reviewer who did not subscribe and judged the public front page, the forum and the feature list. Before you pay $198 a year, ask a current member what the case studies actually gave them. [3] [5]
