Wellfound: Pros and Cons

Wellfound is free to apply, and listings show salary ranges when companies give one. The biggest con is silence after applying, and applications cannot be withdrawn. Employers face auto-renewing subscriptions and conflicting refund terms. Which points matter depends on whether you are applying or hiring. [1] [3] [6] [19] [12]

The biggest pro is that job seekers pay nothing

Applying on Wellfound costs a job seeker nothing. Wellfound calls the core service complimentary, and job seekers are not charged for applications. Its job-seeker code also bars employers from charging applicants a fee. [1] [2]

The second pro is information. Listings show a salary range when the company gives one, and the filters, location settings and tags help you skip poor-fit roles. Several reviewers praise the filters, and some praise the salary and equity on listings. [3] [19]

The biggest con is silence, and you can't take back an application

Many Trustpilot reviewers describe no reply, or one interview that went nowhere, after applying. Wellfound gives no read receipt and publishes no reply time, so you learn what happened only from the Applied tab. An application expires after two weeks without company action. [19] [4] [5]

Once sent, an application cannot be withdrawn, so a wrong note stays on file. Only your profile and résumé can still be edited, and recruiters see the latest versions. Read the note before you send it. [6]

For employers, the paid tools renew and the refunds are unclear

Recruit Pro is $499 per seat a month, billed upfront and renewed automatically unless an Admin cancels. Cancelling stops renewal, and the plan runs to its end date. Read the renewal rule before your first charge. [11] [12]

The refund terms conflict. The 2020 General Terms allow a refund request within seven days of payment, while the 2019 Jobs Terms and 2021 Source Terms call subscription and promoted fees non-refundable. The pricing page sets out what each product costs. [15] [16]

A growing con: stale listings, and disputes about fake applicants

Stale listings are a newer complaint. A few reviewers describe filled roles and vanishing listings between September 2024 and February 2026, which cuts against the praise for recent roles. Reviewers also disagree about whether postings look fake, and Wellfound publishes no fraud rate. [17] [21]

Which matter most for you

If you're applying for a few roles a week, the pros win. The core service is free, and salary ranges help you compare offers. Set one saved search, check the Applied tab, and expect silence more often than an answer. [1] [8]

If you're hiring one role with no recruiter, the free listing is the first step. Add a salary range, see who applies after two weeks, and move to a paid tool only if the applicants don't match. [3]

If you're hiring several people a month, the cons weigh more. A $499 seat costs $5,988 a year before any success fee, and auto-renewal and unclear refunds mean you must track each product's dates. [11] [12] [15]
